Iran-bound ship being held in Greece

ATHENS, Greece, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Greek officials have detained a ship bound for Iran on suspicion the vessel is carrying missile components, an Iranian government source says.

The unidentified source confirmed a media report that stated the ship, Susanna, has been held at a Greek dock near Athens since Dec. 10 based on intelligence data, Haaretz reported Friday.

The data suggested the ship, which had been traveling from Slovenia to Iran, was carrying illegal cargo consisting of components for ballistic missiles.

A total of 80 tons of CK22 steel was allegedly found on board the vessel at the Greek port. The steel delivery would be deemed illegal since it was destined for an Iranian firm currently under U.N. Security Council sanctions.

Meanwhile, a Lebanese ship was seized by Israeli forces this week for allegedly attempting to enter Gaza's territorial waters.

Haaretz said the ship was seized and ordered to be searched in Israel after its captain ignored warnings not to enter the restricted waters. The ship was carrying journalists, along with Lebanese and Syrian nationals.
