Human rights charges likely in Gaza

GAZA, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Both Israeli and Palestinian forces will likely face allegations of human rights violations from the recent Gaza conflict, activists say.

Human rights activists allege both Israel and Palestinian forces in Gaza committed war crimes during the three-week conflict and should be held accountable, Iran's Press TV reported Thursday.

Among the alleged Israeli violations committed during the country's 23-day Gaza military action was the destruction of a United Nations school by Israeli artillery fire.

Human rights activists allege Palestinian groups, including Hamas, committed war crimes by repeatedly firing rockets into Israel from parts of Gaza.

The conflict, which ended in January after both sides declared ceasefires, has been blamed for the deaths of more than 1,300 Palestinians and 13 Israeli soldiers.

Press TV said the allegations come as the International Criminal Court was recognized by the Palestinian National Authority as having investigative jurisdiction over alleged Gaza conflict human rights violations.
