Icy Kentucky to get more snow, wind

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Officials in Kentucky say carbon monoxide poisoning is becoming a threat as National Guard troops help blacked out residents recover from a massive ice storm.

Troops went door-to-door in some areas of the state Tuesday to check on the approximately 250,000 people who have not had electricity for since ice brought down utility lines nearly a week ago. Kentucky residents were bracing for another blast of winter cold and up to three inches of snow.

CNN said carbon monoxide exhaust from gasoline-powered portable generators has been blamed for at least 16 deaths in the hard-hit western half of the state, and it could take weeks to get all the power back on.

"Devastation is sometimes an overused word, but I would say that's what we had," said Mayfield Mayor Arthur Byrn.
