DETROIT, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is set to be released from the Wayne County Jail, the same day he plans to go to Texas about a new job, officials said.

The Detroit News reported Monday that after completing his sentence for obstruction of justice Tuesday, Kilpatrick plans to join his wife and three sons in Texas.

A judge approved Kilpatrick's out-of-state travel while he remains on probation for five years. Details of where Kilpatrick might go to work were not disclosed.

The mayor faces possible federal indictment in Detroit in connection with alleged fraud involving city contracts, the newspaper reported.

After his release, Kilpatrick will have served 99 days of a 120-day sentence because state law calls for a reduction of 20 days for good behavior. The judge gave Kilpatrick one day credit for the night he spent in jail after a tussle with police officers trying to serve him with court papers.
