LOUISVILLE, Ky., Feb. 1 (UPI) -- National Guard troops were visiting homes in Kentucky Sunday to offer supplies to those residents hit hardest by a recent ice storm, officials said.

CNN said a total of 4,600 National Guard troops have been called up to help state residents recover from last week's storm, which has been blamed for at least seven deaths.

Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear said the storm that threatened parts of the state for most of last week represented "the biggest natural disaster that this state has ever experienced in modern history."

Since the storm first hit Kentucky last Tuesday, a total of 21 deaths have occurred. But only seven of those deaths have been confirmed as storm-related.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the American Red Cross are also on hand to help those impacted by the storm.

CNN said, according to the governor's office, 92 of Kentucky's 120 counties declared emergencies during the storm.
