MEXICO CITY, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- An Ecuadoran man was being held in Mexico for failing to declare $2 million in cash, an official said.

The Public Safety Secretariat said the man, Victor Hugo Guerrero allegedly intended to take the money to Colombia, the Latin American Herald Tribune reported Sunday.

The large stash of cash was found in a hidden compartment during a search of his luggage, the newspaper said. The money was divided into 153 packets wrapped in clear plastic.

Guerrero was arrested and turned over to federal authorities, the Herald Tribune said.
