Japanese crabbers detained by Russians

TOKYO, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Russian officials say they have seized a crab fishing vessel and its 10 crew members in the Sea of Japan.

The Yomiuri Shimbun reported Wednesday that the crew members of the No. 38 Yoshi Maru were detained on suspicion of poaching in Russia's exclusive economic zone.

Masafumi Ando, 43, skipper of the Yoshi Maru, and nine other crew members are expected to arrive in Nakhodka, Russia, by Thursday morning, the newspaper reported.

The Russian Fisheries Agency said the vessel drifted into Russian economic zone while its crew slept Tuesday after crabbing near Kita-Yamato bank.
