Boy hurt in Disney accident dies

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- A boy severely injured on a ride at Disneyland nine years ago has died at a California hospital, his family says.

Brandon Zucker, age 13, died Monday with his mother by his bedside at Children's Hospital of Orange County, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.

In 2000, when he was 4 years old, Zucker suffered severe brain damage when he fell from a spinning car and became trapped under another car on the Roger Rabbit Spin ride, the Times reported.

An investigation by the California Department of Occupational Safety and Health found Disney workers had improperly placed the boy into the ride and failed to lower the lap bar.

The department ordered significant changes to the ride, including the addition of sensors around the bottom of each car that stop the ride when people are on the platform.
