Monster truck show promoter crushed

MADISON, Wis., Jan. 26 (UPI) -- A monster truck show promoter was killed during a show in Madison, Wis., when he was run over by one of his giant vehicles, authorities said.

George Eisenhart, 41, of Monster Truck Nationals, died Saturday night after being crushed, the second fatality at a U.S. monster truck show in less than two weeks, CNN reported Monday.

Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney told reporters Eisenhart's death was a "freak accident." The Monster Truck Racing Association said it happened when he "accidentally stepped in front of a moving vehicle in a fashion that did not provide the vehicle's driver adequate time to react."

A 6-year-old boy in Tacoma, Wash., died Jan. 16 when he was hit by a piece of metal that flew off a monster truck during a show. Eisenhart had cited that incident while telling a Madison television station before his own death that his shows were safe, CNN reported.

"This is our 16th year," Eisenhart told WKOW-TV, Madison. "I wish I had a big piece of wood to knock on right now, but we have not had an incident besides a gal slipping in the aisle way at another location."
