Portland mayor says he's not resigning

PORTLAND, Ore., Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Portland Mayor Sam Adams said Sunday he would not resign, as a former intern told The (Portland) Oregonian he and Adams kissed twice when the intern was 17.

Adams, who is openly gay, last week admitted to a relationship with Beau Breedlove when the young man was an intern in another public official's office, but Adams said the relationship did not become sexual until Breedlove was 18. After Adams issued an apology and admitted lying to the public, other Portland officials called on the Washington state attorney general to investigate.

Portland City Commission member Randy Leonard Sunday told The Oregonian Adams left him a message saying he is not resigning. Two other commissioners said they received similar messages from Adams, the newspaper said.

Breedlove, 21, said Adams kissed him on the lips on two occasions before he turned 18. In an interview with The Oregonian, Breedlove confirmed Adams' account that the two didn't have a sexual relationship until after he turned 18.

"I do not see any relationship that I ever had with Sam as me being taken advantage of," Breedlove told the newspaper. "I do not feel like I was ever a victim. I may have been 17, but I was an adult, and I knew what I was doing."
