WICHITA, Kan., Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Prosecutors allege a Wichita, Kan., mother prostituted her then 5-year-old daughter for money to buy cigarettes and alcohol.
"This is a weird case," said prosecutor Christine Ladner. "The sad facts are that (the mother) was the supplier of sex acts by her daughter to the defendant."
The mother, 48, and her friend, Reggie Stafford, 51, have been charged with multiple counts of rape, sodomy and aggravated indecent liberties with a child, The Wichita (Kansas) Eagle reported Sunday.
The mother, whose name has been withheld to protect the identity of her daughter, also is charged with aggravated child endangerment, the Eagle reported.
The daughter, now 7, allegedly told police Stafford gave her mother $6 or $7 on several occasions in exchange for performing sex acts with the girl, the Eagle reported.
A district court judge has denied a request by prosecutors to introduce testimony from two of the woman's grown daughters, who allegedly told a social worker the mother had prostituted them to Stafford when they were between the ages of 8 and 14, the Eagle reported.
The 23-year-old daughter has since denied having sex with Stafford while her 25-year-old sister said she was prepared to testify against their mother.
The mother and Stafford have denied any wrongdoing, though the mother allegedly has said she is an alcoholic.
