JERUSALEM, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip will eventually recover from the Israeli offensive in the region and return stronger than before, an Israeli officer says.
Col. Yigal Slovik, commander of Israel's Armored Corps 401st Brigade, said despite Israel's attempts to eradicate Hamas from the Gaza Strip, the militant group will likely learn from the assault and be resurrected in a stronger form, Ynetnews said Friday.
"I suggest that even now we do not dismiss Hamas, because an enemy is an enemy, and it too will draw lessons from the conflict and will be stronger in the next round (of fighting)," Slovik said Thursday.
Slovik, whose brigade entered the troubled region through the Netzarin corridor during the recent conflict, also downplayed any moralistic dilemmas associated with the Israeli offensive.
"When you see one house that is laden with explosives, and then the one next to is also booby-trapped or serves as a weapons cache -- then there is no dilemma," Slovik told Ynetnews.
"We did not destroy homes; we acted against terror infrastructure," he later added.
