CHICAGO, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- A December report on the possible selling of the Illinois Senate seat did not mention that Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel used an intermediary, sources say.

Emanuel is said to have asked an aide of Gov. Rod Blagojevich to relay a message from the Obama camp about selecting confidant Valerie Jarrett to fill Obama's Senate seat, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Friday.

The sources told the newspaper that using aide John Wyma to inform Blagojevich that the Obama camp would provide only "appreciation" in return for Jarrett's selection was "uncharacteristic" of Emanuel.

Earlier, Emanuel himself had pushed for Jarrett's appointment.

When he made the call for Emanuel in November Wyma was providing information to the feds about pay-to-play allegations against Blagojevich.

However, there is no indication he knew about the allegations related to the sale of the Senate seat at the time of Emanuel's request, the sources say.

Wyma's attorney has refused to comment and an Emanuel spokeswoman referred to the December report.
