NASHVILLE, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- The speaker of the Tennessee House says he never sexually harassed anyone despite allegations about some remarks made to a female lawmaker.
The (Nashville) Tennessean said Wednesday that House Speaker Kent Williams has declined direct comment on a 2007 memo from House Republican leader Jason Mumpower that outlined an alleged incident in which Williams made lewd remarks to Republican Rep. Susan Lynn.
Williams said in his statement Tuesday, "I have never sexually harassed anyone nor have I been reprimanded for any such behavior."
The memo lists two other GOP representatives who witnessed the incident.
The newspaper said Mumpower's memo surfaced a week after Williams, who is also a Republican, joined ranks with 49 Democrats to narrowly defeat Mumpower for the speaker's job.
