WASHINGTON, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- The U.S. Senate Tuesday confirmed six of President Barack Obama's Cabinet secretaries and his budget director.
A vote on Hillary Clinton's nomination for secretary of state, however, was delayed for a day, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, objected to approving Clinton's nomination by voice vote -- as the other nominees were today -- because of concerns about potential conflicts from foreign donations to the foundation of her husband, former President Bill Clinton.
Confirmed without any debate, were Steven Chu, a Nobel Prize winning physicist, as energy secretary; Arne Duncan, Chicago Public Schools chief, as education secretary; Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano as Homeland Security secretary; Peter Orszag as head of the Office of Management and Budget; Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar as interior secretary; retired Gen. Eric Shinseki as Veterans Affairs secretary and former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack as Agriculture Secretary.
Among nominations still pending Senate approval are Eric Holder to be attorney general and former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle's nomination to be Health and Human Services secretary.
Treasury Secretary-designate Timothy Geithner's confirmation hearing was postponed amid questions about his failure to pay payroll taxes for several years.
