PRINCETON, N.J., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Nearly four in five Americans see Barack Obama's election as one of the most historic elections the nation has had, a Gallup Poll indicated Monday.

Of the 78 percent who see the election as one of the most important events, 33 percent consider it the most historic ever, results indicated.

When asked whether they view Obama's inauguration more as a celebration for all Americans or more of a political celebration by his supporters, 55 percent said they consider it to be a celebration by all Americans, the Princeton, N.J., polling agency said.

A majority -- 56 percent -- said they expect Obama to deliver an "excellent" inauguration speech, more than three times the number who expected the same from President George W. Bush's inaugural addresses in 2001 and 2005.

Results are based on national telephone interviews Jan. 9-11 with 1,031 adults. The margin of error is 3 percentage points.
