TORONTO, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Two Toronto Police horses and their constable riders were preparing Saturday to work at U.S. President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration in Washington.
Constables Jeff Dale and Rob Graham will be part of the mounted police contingent Tuesday as the United States' first black president is sworn in. The unit's commander, Staff Inspector Bill Wardle told the Toronto Sun it was "an honor to be asked" to participate.
The horses are named Ed Mirvish, after the late Toronto entertainment and retail mogul, and Spencer, named after the late British Princess Diana's maiden name.
The officers and their horses will depart on the 10-hour road trip Sunday, the Sun said.
"They love to travel," Wardle said of the horses. "You put a hay bag in front of them and they love the trip."
Toronto's mounted unit was formed in 1886 and has 43 members and 28 horses, the report said.
