Alleged plane-crash faker in hospital

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Jan. 16 (UPI) -- The Indiana investment adviser accused of faking his death in a plane crash is expected to spend several more days in a Florida hospital, officials said Friday.

Federal marshals said Marcus Schrenker will be transferred from Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare to a detention center in Pensacola when he is well enough, CNN reported. They said he will remain hospitalized at least through the weekend.

Schrenker allegedly parachuted from his plane over Alabama. He was found Tuesday at a campground near Quincy, Fla., where he apparently tried to take his own life.

He faces federal charges that include sending a false distress call that triggered a Coast Guard search and willful destruction of the plane.

Indiana has charged Schrenker with unlawful acts connected to his business as an investment adviser.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Florida said Indiana has agreed to let federal authorities proceed first with their case against Schrenker.
