Cop says he was undercover, not crooked

HARVEY, Ill., Jan. 15 (UPI) -- A police officer in Harvey, Ill., alleges he was not working for a drug dealer for personal gain, but rather as part of an undercover operation.

Harvey Police officer Archie Stallworth denies charges he corrupted his position by becoming mired in a drug conspiracy, alleging his security position under the drug dealer was all about gathering intelligence, the Chicago Sun-Times said Thursday.

Stallworth faced a grand jury indictment last month after the drug dealer in question turned out to be an undercover FBI agent.

Three other Harvey police officers also face related drug conspiracy charges, as are 10 Cook County sheriff's corrections officers and a Chicago Police officer.

Stallworth denies the allegations against him, maintaining he filed police reports for every encounter he had with the dealer. The grand jury also indicted Stallworth, 36, on a charge of filling false police reports.

"If he's going to get an Oscar, I should get an Oscar because we were doing the same thing," Stallworth told the Sun-Times of his FBI counterpart in the case.
