Kidnapped children rescued in China

BEIJING, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Police in China say four boys and one girl have been rescued after several months of investigation into a kidnapping ring in Yueyang, Hunan.

Thirteen people were arrested, most of them gang members with previous criminal records, Xinhua, China's state-run news agency, reported Tuesday.

The children, ages 2 and 3, were snatched in broad daylight in September by men on motorcycles, said police, who did not give a motive for the kidnappings and could not say how many children in all had been kidnapped.

The children, whose parents are migrant workers, were kidnapped and then taken to other provinces, said police, noting three special investigation teams conducted searches and rescues in the provinces of Sichuan, Hubei, Fujian and Yunnan.
