Washington may see Inauguration Day snow

WASHINGTON, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Inauguration Day in Washington could be a snowy affair as a snow storm is expected to hit the area shortly before the presidential event, forecasters say.

AccuWeather.com said Monday that a snow storm has been forecasted to develop off the coast of Virginia the day before the highly-anticipated Jan. 20 event and should bring light snow to Washington next Monday night.

If the storm develops additional strength, AccuWeather.com said it could result in more snow for the nation's capital.

Temperatures in Washington and most of the northeastern United States are expected to be very low this week, rounding out in 20s by week's end.

Those low temperatures should not be around for the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Barack Obama though, AccuWeather.com said.

The weather Web site forecasts temperatures in the 30s for Inauguration Day, well above the 7 degrees Washington suffered through during the Jan. 21, 1985, inauguration of U.S. President Ronald Reagan.
