ALBANY, N.Y., Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Caroline Kennedy and New York Gov. David Paterson met Saturday to discuss her possible appointment to the U.S. Senate, The New York Times reported.
Kennedy is one of perhaps 10 people reportedly seeking the seat now held by Hillary Clinton and likely to be vacated when she is confirmed as secretary of state. Paterson has had the potential successors to Clinton fill out detailed questionnaires and is expected to hold formal meetings with the rest of the field during the next few days.
The Times cited two unnamed sources in its report on Paterson's meeting with Kennedy.
The 51-year-old Kennedy, the only surviving child of President John F. Kennedy, seemed like a front-runner when her name first surfaced. But her awkwardness with the news media and politicians has raised questions about her political skills.
New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, from another political dynasty, is also seeking the Senate seat. He is the ex-husband of Kennedy's first cousin.
