Embarrassing video, Prince Harry apology

LONDON, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Prince Harry, younger son of the heir to the British throne, has again become a royal embarrassment, this time with a video showing him making racist jokes.

A spokesman for Harry and his older brother, Prince William, released a statement of apology Saturday, The Observer reported.

The video was made in 2006 while Harry was a student at Sandhurst, the British military academy -- and about a year after he attended a costume party dressed as a Nazi officer. It was leaked to the tabloid newspaper News of the World.

Prince Harry was videotaped calling a Pakistani officer who was also at Sandhurst "our little Paki friend" and telling another cadet wearing a camouflage veil, "F---- me, you look like a raghead."

He also pretended to make a cell phone call to his great-grandmother, who had died four years earlier, while making fun of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, who happens to be commander in chief of the military.

The video becomes public at a time when the Ministry of Defense is trying to recruit Muslims into the British Army, The Observer said.

"This sort of language is not acceptable in a modern army," a ministry spokesman said Saturday.
