Opposition leader seeks ministerial change

HARARE, Zimbabwe, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Zimbabwe's opposition leader is demanding that the police, army and Central Intelligence Organization be placed under government control.

The call came on the heels of revelations that police, military and intelligence officials targeted members of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change as well as human rights activists, the Zimbabwe Independent reported Friday.

The Independent reported that the opposition party was considering walking out of power-sharing talks between President Robert Mugabe and opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

In September, the two agreed to form a power-sharing government, but the agreement brokered by former South African President Thabo Mbeki has stalled amid disagreements between Mugabe and Tsvangirai over control of key ministries.
