Six Flags Over Georgia sued over assault

ATLANTA, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- The 2007 brutal assault of Joshua Martin at the hands of several teenagers initially began on the grounds of Six Flags Over Georgia, a lawsuit alleges.

Martin alleges in his lawsuit against the tourist park and his four alleged attackers that Six Flags is liable for the incident since it began on the grounds of the park outside Atlanta, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution said Wednesday.

The park has disputed the civil suit claim, saying the incident on July 3, 2007, did not begin until Martin left Six Flags property.

Martin alleges in his Cobb State Court suit that Six Flags security personnel had learned of an on-site altercation between him and the beating suspects and another man prior to the 2007 attack.

The suit filed Tuesday alleges security personnel failed to act on that knowledge and Martin, who was 19 at the time, was violently attacked by the four assailants, who were seasonal employees at the park.

Martin's attorney, Gilbert Deitch, told the Journal-Consitution the suit is concerned with obtaining unspecified damages over the incident.

"The criminal punishment will take care of those that beat him," Deitch said, referring to an upcoming criminal trial for the assault suspects. "We are looking to take care of the damages from the beating."
