BAGHDAD, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Separate roadside bombings in northern Iraq killed eight Iraqi soldiers Thursday, officials said.

In one incident, two bombs were detonated in rapid succession as an Iraqi army convoy was passing, killing six soldiers and injuring five others, CNN reported. The bombing occurred as the patrol was responding to a mortar attack near a police station in the town of Jalawla, about 50 miles northeast of Baquba.

The second roadside bombing occurred in Rashad, about 21 miles south of Kirkuk, Iraqi police said. The bomb struck an army patrol, killing two soldiers and wounding two others.
