JOHN GOTTI JR. TRIAL

NEW YORK, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- The body of a man targeted by hired killers for hitting reputed New York mobster John Gotti's son with his car was disposed of using acid, documents allege.

Court documents filed this week contain allegations by accused mob hitman Charles Carneglia, including details on how he and six other hired killers disposed of John Favara's body by placing it in a vat of acid, the New York Post said Thursday.

Favara, 51, had accidentally struck Gotti's 12-year-old son, Frank, with his car in 1980 after the child suddenly rode into a New York street.

The accident killed the young boy and allegedly prompted Gotti to order the group of seven hired killers to assassinate Favara, the documents allege.

Carneglia, 62, allegedly said in the court documents "that acid was the best method to use to avoid detection," the Post reported.

The documents filed Tuesday are part of Carneglia's forthcoming trial on racketeering charges, the New York Daily News said.

The newspaper said the reputed Gambino crime family member has long been suspected of killing Favara, whose body was never found. He disappeared in 1980.
