Alleged Mexican cartel leader arrested

MEXICO CITY, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- An alleged leader in a Mexican drug cartel has been arrested and cash, weapons, cars and drugs seized, the Mexican military said.

Adrian Rivera Garcia, known as "El Primo Rivera," was arrested Wednesday in Tlapa de Comonfort, 140 miles south of Mexico City, Notimex, the state-run news agency, reported. He was described as the head of a cell in the Beltran-Leyva brothers cartel.

Investigators said the Beltran-Leyva brothers cartel is allied with the Gulf cartel.

Garcia was reportedly arrested in 2007 on charges of possessing stolen property, weapons and a vehicle, and paid a fine of almost $30,000.
