Dead Wis. man tied to missing Minn. boy

MILWAUKEE, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- A dead Milwaukee man left behind a house containing disturbing items revealing his interest in a Minnesota boy who disappeared 19 years ago, police say.

Police say their search of Vernon Seitz's home last month turned up a photo of 11-year-old Jacob Wettlering, a video of him before his 1989 abduction, news stories, maps and various letters, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported Tuesday.

Police had gone to Seitz's residence after the 62-year-old barber's psychiatrist informed them he had admitted killing two children in 1958 and wanted to confess. But they found Seitz man dead, apparently of natural causes, the newspaper said.

Besides the Wetterling-related items, investigators found child pornography paintings of young boys being tortured, books about cannibalism and news articles about other missing children.

They also found recently poured concrete and tufts of hair in the basement, bondage devices hanging from rafters and piles of dirt outside.

Wetterling was abducted in October 1989 by a masked gunman while playing with his brother and a friend near his home in St. Joseph, Minn.

His mother, Patty Wetterling, told the Pioneer Press Tuesday that Seitz had visited her twice soon after the abduction. She said he claimed to be a psychic interested in helping and gave her a painting of her son.

She added that he also seemed troubled.

"I refuse to think about more of this type of scenario than I have to right now ... ," she said. "This is not the ending I want, this isn't what I would like to see for any family."
