BAGHDAD, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- At least one Iraqi civilian was killed and six others were injured, including three Iraqi soldiers, when a car bomb exploded Tuesday in Baghdad.

The explosion was near the marketplace of Halouani, KUNA, the Kuwaiti News Agency, reported Tuesday.

Meanwhile, three American soldiers were injured when an Iraqi man tossed a hand grenade at a U.S. Army patrol unit in southern Baghdad.

A source said the unknown Iraqi threw the hand grenade at the US vehicle causing injuries to three servicemen and damaging the vehicle, KUNA reported.

U.S. forces in the vehicle opened fire at the Iraqi gunmen and killed him, the source said.

In northern Iraq, two Iraqis died and eight others were injured in two separate explosions in Kirkuk and Mosul, the Kuwait news agency KUNA reported.

Police said two people died and at least one was injured when gunmen fired on three Iraqi civilians on the main road between Kirkuk and Salmaniya.

In Mosul, police said seven people -- including five police officers -- were injured when an explosives-laden vehicle exploded. Officials told KUNA the driver was targeting a police patrol.
