CAIRO, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman met Tuesday with a delegation from the Palestinian Hamas movement about the Gaza Strip conflict, sources said.

The Kuwaiti News Agency reported that Suleiman met with Hamas politburo members Emad Al-Alami and Mohammad Nasr.

KUNA said Israeli attacks against Gaza have killed some 550 Palestinians and injured more than 2,700 others.

Separately, French President Nicolas Sarkozy returned to Egypt Tuesday for additional talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak about the conflict.

KUNA reported that Sarkozy was in Beirut this week to meet with his Lebanese counterpart, Michel Suleiman, as part of a Middle East tour.

Earlier, the French president met in Damascus with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and urged Syria to put pressure on Hamas to return to a truce in the Gaza Strip, the report said.
