GANDER, Newfoundland, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- A Russian man was in the custody of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Newfoundland Monday after a Delta Airlines flight made an unscheduled stop.

Crew aboard Flight 47 from Moscow to Atlanta radioed ahead Sunday that a drunken man was being abusive and was a threat to the flight's safety, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

The plane landed at Gander in central Newfoundland, and the RCMP said the man continued being hostile while being arrested at the terminal.

The flight continued on and arrived in Atlanta four hours late, the report said.

The unidentified 39-year-old suspect was charged with interfering with aircraft safety, and was appear in court once a translator had been found, police said.
