Christian Science: 'A lot of fussing'

BOSTON, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Christian Science Church leaders say they have been trying to calm church members around the world following questions about how the church is being run.

The board of directors says the international effort is a response to voiced concerns about how the five-member board has been managing the church's assets and planning for its future, The Boston Globe said Monday.

The leadership has acknowledged declining membership and various unsuccessful ventures, the Globe said.

Board member Nathan Talbot said the church's leadership has taken 191 trips to various global locations to meet members and calm their concerns .

"There was a lot of fussing going on in the Christian Science movement, and I think it was actually having an adverse impact on what we have always felt was our primary mission, which was to heal, to be good healers," Talbot said.

The board has sold several of the buildings attached to the church's Boston headquarters, the Globe said.
