Six killed in N.W. Pakistan suicide blast

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- A suicide bomber killed six people in northwestern Pakistan Sunday after luring police to the scene with a smaller initial explosion, officials said.

The attack happened in Dera Ismail Khan in Pakistan's North West Frontier province after police and others had been attracted to a cafe near a local college by an initial blast, Mayor Haji Abdul Rauf told CNN.

The mayor said four Dera Ismail Khan residents and two police officers were killed and 20 others injured when the suicide bomber struck 10 minutes after the first explosion. A local journalist told the U.S. broadcaster the two civilians killed were journalists who showed up to cover the story.

The town is a frequent target of suicide bombers, with at least seven people dying and 30 sustaining injuries there during a November funeral procession, police said.
