Ceiling panels fall, injure diners

BOSTON, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Building inspectors in Boston say they're checking the stability of a restaurant where heavy panels fell from the ceiling injuring 11 people.

Eight diners were hospitalized Saturday night and three were treated at the scene of Franklin Southie, a posh restaurant that had just opened for business, The Boston Herald reported Sunday.

The injuries were not life threatening, said Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald.

About 70 patrons were in the restaurant when several heavy decorative ceiling panels fell, MacDonald said, noting the cause of the ceiling collapse remained undetermined.
