TOLDEO, Ohio, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Investigators are searching for the cause of a fire that killed hundreds of goats and other farm animals in Oregon, Ohio.

The fire burned four barns belonging to Prakash Thombre, an Indian immigrant who raised hormone-free and pesticide-free livestock for area stores, The Toledo (Ohio) Blade reported.

Thombre said his entire business was lost in Friday's fire, which killed 150 goats and as many as 500 rabbits, geese, guineas and chickens and their chicks. The family truck and two cars also were destroyed.

Thombre said he and his wife and two children went to bed and woke after midnight to flames and intense heat that damaged the side of their home.

"We tried to save some animals, but the goats were stubborn. They ran to the other side of the barn," Thombre said.
