JERUSALEM, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Israel began calling up reserves Saturday as troops crossed the border into Gaza, officials said.
The first reserve soldiers reported to their bases in the evening, Ynetnews reported. More were expected Sunday.
The Security Cabinet approved the emergency call-up Friday at a meeting that also authorized the invasion. Troops began moving after sunset Saturday.
Two members of the Cabinet, Vice Premier Haim Ramon and Industry, Trade and Labor Minister Eli Yishai, did not vote in favor of the invasion, Ynetnews said. Both abstained after the Cabinet rejected their motion to make ousting Hamas part of Israel's war objectives.
Details of the meeting were not released, and the decisions were only announced Saturday evening.
The call-up means tens of thousands of Israelis will be on active duty in the military.
