ASHDOD, Israel, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Palestinian militants fired at least 16 rockets and mortar shells into Israel from Gaza Saturday, defying continued Israeli air attacks, officials said.

Two people were slightly wounded by shrapnel when an eight-story building in Ashdod was hit by a rocket, while at least three other people were treated for shock, The Jerusalem Post reported.

No one was wounded when several buildings were also damaged by rockets, including a cafeteria in a kibbutz on the Gaza periphery, a house in Ashkelon, and a building in the Ashkelon beach area.

Netivot, Sderot, Gan Yavne, Kiryat Malachi and the Eshkol region also reported rocket strikes, the Post said.
