ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Jan. 1 (UPI) -- Four people were killed and many wounded in a suspected drone missile strike in Pakistan's South Waziristan tribal area Thursday, officials said.

CNN, quoting Pakistani intelligence officials, said two missiles were fired near the town of Wana in the tribal district close to the border with Afghanistan.

Geo TV reported the missile strike targeted a vehicle, killing four people in it.

The report said several more people were injured but it was not clear if the injured were in or near the vehicle. It said the death toll may rise as some of the injured were in critical condition.

The CNN report quoted local residents and intelligence officials as saying the targeted vehicle was carrying Uzbek militants.

The report said the U.S. military in Afghanistan does not comment on such reported cross-border missile strikes.
