NEW YORK, Jan. 1 (UPI) -- Attorneys for John Gotti, whose late father John ran the Gambino crime family, say he is planning on seeking bail in order to leave a Florida jail.

The attorneys said Gotti will file documents with Manhattan federal court in an attempt to garner a bail offer that would allow him to leave the Tampa facility where he is awaiting trial on a racketeering indictment, Newsday reported Wednesday.

The indictment that led to Gotti's arrest last August alleges the 44-year-old was involved in three homicides that took place in New York nearly 20 years ago.

Gotti has already filed documents requesting the same federal judge in New York who tried his previous three mistrials for his upcoming trial.

Gotti's attorney, Seth Ginsberg, said his client is set to be transferred to New York in the wake of a federal judge's order. The Tampa judge ruled that Gotti should be tried in Manhattan so as to not inconvenience his defense, Newsday said.

The trial assigned to Manhattan federal Judge P. Kevin Castel has yet to be scheduled.
