Two U.S. soldiers slain in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Two U.S. soldiers who sustained combat injuries in Iraq this week died Wednesday, military officials said.

One solider died from wounds received during a mortar attack in Baghdad, while another died from combat injuries received the previous day, the U.S. military officials told CNN.

Officials were withholding the victims' names until family members could be notified. CNN said the deaths bring the U.S. death toll in the Iraq war to 4,219.
