LAS VEGAS, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Nevada Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, accused of misappropriating state funds while state treasurer, pleaded innocent Tuesday in a Las Vegas courtroom.
Krolicki, 47, was indicted along with his chief of staff, Kathy Besser, 42, who also pleaded innocent in district court, the Las Vegas Journal-Review reported.
Krolicki and Besser allegedly mishandled state funds from a state-run college savings program. While the two are not accused of pocketing any money themselves, Krolicki is accused of making unauthorized expenditures and failing to properly account for the funds.
"The facts will absolutely vindicate me on this," he said following his arraignment.
"What I do know is that we created one of the greatest college savings plans in the country. It was balanced to the penny when I left office."
A jury trial was set Tuesday for July 14 before District Judge Elissa Cadish.
