FORT TEJON, Calif., Dec. 31 (UPI) -- An out-of-control truck carrying hazardous materials slammed into several vehicles in California Wednesday, injuring about a dozen people, authorities said.

The afternoon crash near Fort Tejon shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 for about three hours, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The California Highway Patrol said the truck struck at least nine vehicles before running into the center divider.

Details of the type of materials being transported by the truck and whether any leaked were not available.
