WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- A spark from a welder is being blamed for a barn fire that wiped out 900 young pigs at a farm in Canada, authorities said.

No people were hurt in the blaze, which occurred about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday near Hadashville in Manitoba province, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Wednesday.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the barn had been in the process of being renovated. The loss was estimated at $500,000.
