NEW YORK, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- A New Jersey man pleaded guilty Tuesday to helping Hezbollah, a militant Shiite movement in Lebanon designated a terrorist organization by the United States.
Saleh Alahwal, 55, of Matawan admitted in U.S. District Court in New York that he provided material support to Hezbollah, which means Party of God. Specifically, he was paid thousands of dollars to provide satellite transmission services to Hezbollah's television station, Al Manar, from September 2005 to August 2006.
Elahwal admitted he knew Al Manar was operated by Hezbollah and that the group had engaged in acts of terrorism as defined by federal law.
He now faces up to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced Feb. 19.
A co-defendant, Javed Iqbal, also pleaded guilty Dec. 23 to a similar charge and he is to be sentenced March 24.
