PALM BEACH, Fla., Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Thieves have made off with a $10,000 statue from the Florida estate of arrested Wall Street investor Bernard Madoff, a police report said.

An incident report filed with the Palm Beach Police Department said the statue, which disappeared from the mansion Dec. 19, was made of green copper and depicted two lifeguards seated on a bench, Newsday reported Monday.

Madoff, 70, accused of securities fraud in allegedly running a $50 billion Ponzi scheme, is under house arrest at his New York apartment after posting $10 million bail, secured partly by his Palm Beach property.

The police report said the statue's theft was reported by a housekeeper and indicated that an officer had been in contact with Ruth Madoff, Bernard Madoff's wife, who is also reportedly also under federal investigation, Newsday said.

Palm Beach police declined to comment on the incident.
