Tour bus accident kills two in N.M.

ALBUQUERQUE, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Bad weather is suspected to have caused the crash of a tour bus near Corona, N.M., that killed two people and injured several others, police say.

Police said the tour bus ended up on its side after slipping off Highway 54 as its driver was attempting to take a detour Friday night, KOAT-TV of Albuquerque, N.M., reported Saturday.

Inclement weather the night of the accident also prevented medical helicopters from getting to the scene, meaning victims with serious injuries had to be transported to area hospitals in ambulances.

Police said one ambulance crashed on the way to the scene when it slid on an icy spot on the road.

A school bus took bus passengers with minor injuries to area hospitals, where many have already been treated and released.

KOAT-TV said the bus and its nearly 50 passengers had been traveling from El Paso, Texas, to Denver when the crash occurred.
