TOKYO, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- Women will be allowed to serve on the Japanese navy's destroyers, officials said.
The Yomiuri Shimbun reported Saturday that the Japanese military's move ends its policy of restricting women to ground-based logistic support tasks.
The newspaper reported that for maternity reasons, women in the Japanese air force are mainly posted at land bases.
In recent years, there have been fewer male naval force applicants compared to applications to join the ground and air defense forces.
