TBILISI, Georgia, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- A South Ossetian official has accused Georgia of moving military forces to the border, a charge denied by the Georgian Interior Ministry.
South Ossetian Deputy Defense Minister Ibragim Gasseyev insists Georgian special forces have been relocated along the border of South Ossetia for unknown reasons, Interfax reported Saturday.
"According to intelligence, Georgian special forces numbering up to a company have been moved today into the Georgian village of Ditsi in the zone bordering South Ossetia. In order to prevent provocations from the Georgian side, South Ossetian military structures have reinforced their posts in regions bordering Georgia," Gassayev alleged.
But Georgian Interior Ministry spokesman Shota Utiashvili categorically denied the allegations, telling Interfax Georgia has not reallocated any of its forces to Ditsi in recent days.
"This is blatant misinformation," Utiashvili said of Gassayev's claims. "No additional police forces were moved into the village of Ditsi either today or in preceding days."
