PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- Philadelphia officials Saturday were searching for the cause of a house fire that killed seven people, most of whom who were found huddled in the basement.
Six of the victims, including three adults, a teen and two children, were found Friday in the three-story home's basement huddled up against the only exit door, while a 2-year-old boy pulled from the burning house by firefighters died later at Children's Hospital, CNN reported.
Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers told reporters that of the 11 people of Liberian nationality who lived in the basement of the home, seven were killed, two were rescued and two escaped on their own. He said there were no stairs leading from the basement to the upper levels and only one door leading out.
CNN said a kerosene heater was being eyed as a possible source of the blaze.
